Saint Victor Maurus A.D. 303?
St. Victor Maurus was born in third century Mauretania and is believed to have been a soldier in the Praetorian Guard. Victor was a Christian from his youth and lived most of his life in quiet praise of God. Around the year 303, Victor, who was advanced in age, was arrested for being a Christian and handed over to the torturer. Victor received many hideous, painful tortures, including having hot lead poured on him, but did not renounce the Faith. Victor’s Faith proved unshakable and was ordered to be beheaded. After his death, Victor’s body was taken away by the faithful and buried outside of the city of Milan. Many miracles were reported to happen at his grave and a church was later built up around it. St. Gregory of Tours wrote about the many miracles that occurred at the shrine of St. Victor. In the year 1576, the relics of Victor were translated to a new church inside the city of Milan which is dedicated to him.
