St. Bede, Benedictine, Doctor, 673-735
St. Bede was an English priest, famous as a saint, a priest, a monk, a teacher and a historical writer. Born in England in 673, he was sent to the local Benedictine monastery to receive an education. He later became a monk and remained in that same monastery for the rest of his life.

St. Bede loved teach and write about the Holy Bible. He wanted people to be able to read the words of Jesus in their own language, and he worked at translating St. John’s Gospel from Latin to English. St. Bede died May 25, 735. His most famous book, Church History of the English People is the only source for much of early English history.
