You know what I like best about Saint Francis? His spirit of joy. My favorite image of him, is that time when he picked up two old sticks from the ground and began to play them like a fiddle. I don't think he got much music from them but he did get joy!
This joy comes from being little. Big folks don't have joy, they have worries! They have troubles, they have cares and comlaints, and daily dissatisfactions from the taste of the soup to the cut of the crystal. All of us have our "Big Folks" moments....but if we can shed that coat of self importance for a while we will find joy! If we trust that God is going to take care of us today - we will find joy! If we trust that God is going to take care of our loved ones - we will find joy! If we trust that God will take care of tomorrow - we will find joy! If we trust that whatever happens to us, whatever cross that will show up in our life, we will be carrying hand in hand with our Savior, Jesus Christ - we will find joy! |
