The new card site is having pains..... don't think it needs to be put out of its misery yet.. but it could be getting close. I'm sure at some point everything will be fixed.. but at the moment... we are not on the best of speaking terms. Rats.

It's been practically a whole year since we last sent out our community newsletter, Called By Joy! So that is my focus for the next few days. So inbetween staring out the window and playing solitaire I guess I will have to work a little.
Here is a link to view the Christmas edition.... Winter Newsletter The cover phone (online edtion) is a little blurry.. sorry.
Normally (this has not been a normal year) we send it out three times a year. It's free, no push to send a donation or anything of that sort but it is a way to let our friends know what we are doing. Especially for those who don't use the computer. Anyway if you are in the United States and would like to be added to our list of community friends - the next issue will be going out the second week of September. You can

Tom's Mother
Melvin Perry
Jacksonville, Florida
My brother knew exactly who to call--Tom's mother. She believed
in prayer, and I needed a miracle fast! I was in a hospital, barely hanging
on to life. My spinal cord had been severed by a bullet, and both of my
lungs had collapsed. My prognosis wasn't good.
Tom's mother showed up at my bedside and told me to blink my
eyes once for yes and twice for no when she asked me if I wanted to be
baptized. I blinked yes. With my family around my bed, she gave me
an emergency baptism. Two days later, she sent a priest to invest me in
the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It was a miracle that I
survived and was able to accept life in a wheelchair.
A couple of years later, my brother again knew exactly who to
call--Tom's mother. She believed in prayer and I again needed a miracle
fast! It was just hours before the New Year would be celebrated all over
the United States and I was in the emergency room at the local Catholic
hospital.

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
Manifold Mercy
Psalm 102:19-20
Let this be written for the generation to come,
and let his future creatures praise the Lord:
"The Lord looked down from his holy height,
from heaven he beheld the earth. . . . "
This fifth penitential psalm recounts God's great mercy and compassion as he "looked down from his holy height" and "beheld the earth." Mankind severed its relationship with God through its sinfulness. The human race was helpless, miserable, desolate.
Our merciful Father gave us a Redeemer in the person of Jesus. His redeeming love brought hope, forgiveness, peace, and joy to all our hearts. May we and all future generations praise the Lord for his unfathomable love.
Jesus was happy to tell us: "The Fathe loves me for this:
that I lay down my life
to take it up again." (Jn 10:17)

On a personal note…
“The “displaced” want to be “placed” again
“The “displaced” want to be “placed” again
Driving from Lusaka in Zambia down to the amazing Kariba Dam used to be a journey of contrasts. Flat, dry savannah where goats roamed searching for the non-existent grass of Zambia’s Southern Province made way for hills, sometimes steep, through which the road wound in steep curves and traffic jams behind stalled and slow-moving, heavily-laden trucks of goods bound for Zimbabwe and South Africa. Potholes and frequent stretches of gravel roads gave way, at Kariba, to excellent tarmac and the impression of silky-smooth roads; such was the contrast…at least, that is, before the increased hardships of the past ten years. Now, the Zambian roads surpass those of Zimbabwe, because where there is no money for food, road maintenance becomes an insignificant priority.

Aug 22 Fri: Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary M
From today's readings:
“ Thus says the Lord GOD: O My people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel. ... Give thanks to the Lord; His love is everlasting.... Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
Dem Dry Bones!
A popular Negro spiritual (with numerous modern spin-offs) sings of Ezekiel’s vision of dry bones which symbolized the abandoned hope and spiritual lifelessness of the children of Israel. Yet in spite of the reiterated dryness of the bones, the prophetic word of the Lord incarnates the dry bones with new life, thereby demonstrating to God’s people how the Holy Spirit brings new life even to a skeletal faith!
All of us, I’m sure, find ourselves foraging figuratively amidst piles of our own dry and spiritless bones, offspring of moral resolutions and religious intentions that have been reduced to such a pathetic and apathetic state because we starved them or allowed armies of temptations to slaughter them. Can such bones come to life?
Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may come to life!
