Today has been a busy day. A new secular Franciscan Young Adult group is starting in our area - and one of the things that they will be doing is working with radio. So they had their first radio workshop this evening. It was way too fun. And of course they did make great progress - which is as important as having fun.
I also went to visit my mom. When I walked in the door she was sitting in a chair and looking so sad. But I had bought a big box of her stuffed friends.. a rabbit, bears and dogs and a beaver and I set the box down before her and reintroduced each one. It was very fun. Her seatmates next to here were quite interested as well. It was cute.
Then we went to her room and unpacked some more of her clothes and put all her stuffed friends on her bookcase and about. Made it look a bit more cheerful. We talked and laughed and she said such funny things - and seemed content at the end for us to go which was good. At the beginning she was so hopeful that I would take her back to her apartment.
Next week I will be on retreat - I will not do the full JoyNotes during the retreat - but hopefully a little message each day if life permits.
Blessings of Peace and All Good,
Sister Patricia

I Never Pray Alone
Deborah A. Armenta
Round Lake Beach, Illinios
In December of 1988, my good friend and Franciscan pastor, Fr.
Luis Baldonado, OFM, offered a series of four workshops on "Centering
Prayer." At the time, I was awaiting the birth of my first child who was
due very soon. Not quite sure why I was attending, I faithfully waddled
into the church for the four consecutive weeks of the workshop.
Each week we studied the practice of centering prayer. We began with
"Lectio Divina," where we reflected on sacred readings, and then twice
in the session we sat quietly for twenty minutes, surrendering ourselves
to Christ. We learned about the "sacred word," which is a tool that helps
us quiet our minds so we will be better able to open our hearts and fill
ourselves with the mystery of Christ. I chose a simple word as my prayer
word, and that helped me to refocus myself during my prayer time.
