Quote for the Day:
When we are linked by the power of prayer, we, as it were,
hold each other’s hand as we walk side by side along a slippery
path; and thus by the bounteous disposition of charity, it comes
about that the harder each one leans on the other, the more firmly
we are reverted together in brotherly love.
St. Gregory the Great

I wasn't able to go see my mom today. . . but hopefully with all the prayers from so many of you (for which I send HUGE thanks!) she is doing okay. Tomorrow looks even busier than today... so... I must just trust the angels to watch over her. If you get a chance read Msgr Rosage's little Scripture reflection on angels today (below) its kind of nice. Nothing earth shaking really - but it reminds me to think of the angels more often and ask for their help more often. Seems like I go in spurts - I think about the angels.. and then I think about someone else for help... like a saint or a loved one gone to heaven.
In this life we always seem to struggle to remember everyone and keep everyone on the top of the list.. but I don't think in heaven they get swallowed up with that kind of thing. They are all praising God and wanting us to praise God.. and whether we do it through simple prayers to God alone.. through Jesus or through any of his saints or angels... the whole court of heaven is just happy you are praising God somehow!
Today I received in the mail a lovely magazine from the ' Little Sisters of the Poor.' It was their Autumn issue and they included one of the stories from our book, "The Power of Prayer" which was very nice.. but they also had in this magazine a beautiful picture of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. It was so beautiful - that I went searching on the web to see if I could find another picture.... and lo and behold I did!
It was from this blog site and if you go there - be sure to read the posting about this picture at World Youth Day 2008 - has a very moving God incidence miracle there.

Oil painting of Our Lady of the Southern Cross by Paul Newton Commissioned by Cardinal George Pell for World Youth Day Sydney 2008.
Blessings of Peace and Joy,
Sister Patricia

Some miracles come when we don’t expect them.
We may not even
be aware of how badly we needed them until they happen.
Know what that means?
It means that someone very special—
Someone very powerful and loving and kind—
is watching out for you.
Today, be filled with Joy
because God is there for you
without you
doing anything at all.
Prayer when time is completed:
Jesus,
I wish I would worry less
and trust more.
Thank you
for helping me
bit by bit
to realize that your love
is holding the world
together,
not me.
Amen.

Rejoice in Me
by Msgr. David E. Rosage
Angels Guard You
Psalm 91:11-12
For to his angels he has given command about you,
that they should guard you in all your ways.
Upon their hands they shall bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
As children we treasured the beautiful stories of our guardian angel sent by God to watch over us and protect us from harm. As we matured we might have lost some of this simplicity of that faith.
The psalmist reminds us once again of God's caring and concerned love as he sends his angels to "guard us in all our ways."
Today thank the Lord for his protective love! "See that you never despise one of these little ones. I assure you, their angels in heaven constantly behold my heavenly Father's face." (Mt 18:10)

On a personal note…
Crunching credit
It seems to be one sad story after another. The news this evening began with an announcement of 4,000 jobs finishing in London because of the bankruptcy of a major bank in America.
Of course, there will be the knock-on effect: jobs that are dependent on other people’s work will be affected. One economic crisis will lead to another, and so on around the globe.
But there is a wider angle that does not always hit the news. Four thousand jobs mean a very large number of families that are dependent on a breadwinner. It means a very large number of individuals who, this evening, are probably feeling lost and wondering where to go. Perhaps, because the end of their employment has come like a bolt from the blue, they are feeling stunned this evening, with no idea of what the future holds for themselves or their families. There will be those with mortgages, school fees, bills and other essential expenditure…
We pray for all those who are unexpectedly faced with uncertainty and unemployment. May God be with them at this time, offering the support and strength that they need. May he accompany those families who are suddenly left without a breadwinner and do not know where to turn for help in their sudden need.
God bless,
Sr Janet

Daily Readings
|
Sep 16 Tue: Cornelius, pp, mt, and Cyprian, bp, mt M
From today's readings:
“As a body is one, though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ.... Sing joyfully to the LORD.... Young man, I tell you, arise!”
One Body
St. Paul’s reflections express Christian unity simply as the incarnation of the Body of Christ. What a bold, yet so fitting, image of community communion! Even the legitimate recognition of the diversity of the body’s members does not compromise the profound unity of the one body.
Too many verses have been omitted from the lectionary reading - take the time today to read all of chapter 12 of Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians, and come to realize and appreciate anew your own unique vocation as an indispensable member of the Body of Christ!
